Hodad’s Rebranding Project

This rebranding project for Hodad’s burger joint in Ocean Beach focused on refining and modernizing the brand identity while preserving the iconic personality and laid-back beach culture that makes the restaurant recognizable. The redesigned logo was polished for improving scalability and versatility across digital and print applications, allowing it to function more effectively in contemporary branding without losing its original charm. By maintaining the familiar visual energy of the brand, the redesign stays true to Hodad’s nostalgic Ocean Beach roots and surf-inspired atmosphere.

The visual identity centers around a navy blue and yellow color palette, using strong contrast to create a bold and memorable presence while reflecting the coastal environment and vintage California surf culture associated with Hodad’s. Rustic design elements, worn textures, and handcrafted stylistic choices were incorporated to reinforce the restaurants casual, authentic, and rebellious personality. Overall, the rebrand balanced refinement with familiarity, creating a more cohesive and functional identity system that honors Hodad’s long-standing “Ocean Beach” vibe while preparing the brand for broader modern use.
