Bookmark Designs

This was a project I completed as a piece to represent my personal brand. I wanted to do something that encompasses a few of my interests: literature, illustration, and of course, design. I wanted to go with a playful but simplistic look, using a bright colorful palette, but still remaining consistent with the overall aesthetic of my website. I want viewers to immediately get a sense of my design style when they come across these bookmarks. This was a fun, experimental project that allowed me the freedom to have full reign over my designs, and create something that I feel like screams ‘Kennedy’.

I started out with some sketches of different sea creatures, initially creating the designs in colored pencil to get an idea for color palette and style. I became attached to the illustrative look, but decided to take things a step up with digital design.

While I stuck with the seahorse, I strayed away from the more detail heavy designs and settled for animals that could be conveyed through more simplistic fine-line illustration. Once I established my main components, I began combining them to create different styles that all follow a system. Evidentally, one of the designs is more experimental with the use of a gradient background, but it still correlates to the other five designs as it possesses the whale illustration that is apparent in some of the other designs.
